• Determine that your own family is safe first

• Check on the households (and businesses) in your assigned block.

• Report findings to the Emergency preparedness coordinator (this could change).

• Assist block members as necessary and able.

• Keep track of who is living in each household in your block area (I can help with this as I have done most of the work already).

• Discuss and make note of any special needs of each household, as well as

skills and equipment they have that could be useful following an emergency.

• Welcome new families moving into your block.

• Distribute emergency preparedness information to each family as provided

by Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. This can be done via email.

• Pass information that comes from the Emergency preparedness coordinator to the people in your block. You can use email to do this.

• Attend Block Captain training (we will have preliminary training this coming May).

• Respond to area and district communication drills.

• Have a radio and GMRS license (please don’t let this deter you if you are interested in volunteering. I can help with getting your license and recommending radios, they are surprisingly affordable.)

• We will be communicating through the Group Me app and more information will be provided later on.

• Encourage households to have the skills and supplies on hand to see them

       through an emergency               situation, including 72-hour kits, food storage, etc.

• Complete a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) course (this is not required to become a block captain).

• Participate in community and district preparedness drills.

• Attend Block captain meetings
